Josh, your mower may run rough because of ethanol in the gas. When I had this issue my mower repair shop suggested getting some fuel enhancer, not just fuel stabilizer, but an additive made specifically to offset ethanol in gasoline (you can get it at any big box store in the mower parts area) and using mid-grade fuel (89 octane). Follow the instructions on the bottle. My mower was difficult to start and would barely run before changing fuels. After running two tanks of “new” fuel through it, my mower runs almost like new.

Monitor the oil level in your mower and look for floating debris or oil that appears dark black in color. Old or contaminated oil should be drained and replaced. To change the oil, remove the drain plug underneath the mower and allow it to drain completely. If your mower doesn’t have a drain plug, you’ll need to carefully tilt the mower on its side and drain the oil through the fill hole. Be sure to consult your owner’s manual for the correct method and type of oil to use.
